Job summary
A construction company in Durban seeks a professional to ensure compliance with engineering designs and regulations in construction projects. Responsibilities include conducting inspections, coordinating activities, and overseeing contractors. Candidates should have a National Diploma or equivalent experience and 2-5 years in similar roles, particularly in water treatment plant or civil construction. A valid driver’s license and knowledge of MS Office are essential.
Qualifications

- Experience as Engineering Technician or Technologist with ECSA is a plus.
- 2-5 years in water treatment plant and civil construction.
Responsibilities
- Ensure construction complies with engineering designs and regulations.
- Interpret engineering designs and coordinate construction activities.
- Conduct inspections to maintain quality control.
Purpose of the Job
- Check and confirm that construction work undertaken is in compliance with engineering designs, health and safety specifications, relevant regulations, standards and legislation as well as quality control procedures.
- Interpret engineering designs and sketches.
- Coordination and planning of construction activities.
- Conduct inspection on work completed or still to be carried out to ensure that proper and compliant quality control is maintained.
- Record keeping of work completed and compliance / non-compliance thereof.
- Signing off on portions of work completed to specification.
- Keeping daily logs, including photographs taken during construction.
- Issuing of violation notices and stop-orders where construction, materials or safety regulations do not comply.
- Reporting.
- Oversee the work of the contractors on site.
- Advise and guide contractors in respect of the relevant designs, regulations, standards and legislation, OHS Specifications.
- Compilation of payment documentation.
- Ensure effective contract administration.
- Timeous reporting on problems emanating from the construction process and related issues.
- Identification of existing services (any “problems” graves unexpected conditions, variation tracking)
Requirements
- A National Diploma or Equivalent number of years proven experience,
- Registration as an Engineering Technician or Technologist with ECSA is advantageous.
- 2-5 Years-experience in a similar role in the built environment, specifically water treatment plant, and civil and building construction.
- A valid driver’s licence.
- Conversant in MS Office and Project Software Suite
