Job summary

Durban Civil Engineering is seeking a mid-to-senior Civil Works Estimator to join our head office in Durban. The role focuses on water treatment works, wastewater facilities, concrete structures, and large pipeline infra.

You will analyse tender documents, prepare detailed cost estimates, and coordinate with project teams to ensure accurate submissions. A relevant degree, 5+ years in civil construction, and 2+ years in estimating are essential.

Qualifications

• National Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering; Quantity Surveying qualifications considered.
• BSc preferred but BTech accepted.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in civil construction, site-based.
• At least 2 years in a dedicated Estimating role.
• Competency in Microsoft Office and CCS Candy planning/estimating software.
• Strong understanding of full tender process from pre-bid to submission.
• Ability to assess and quantify commercial and contractual risk.

Responsibilities

• Analyse tender docs and assess contractual risks.
• Compile detailed, competitive tender submissions.
• Prepare cost estimates for materials, labour, plant, equipment, transport.
• Develop and maintain construction timelines using planning tools.
• Prepare Preliminary & General cost schedules based on scope and programme.
• Obtain and evaluate quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Interpret drawings and perform quantity take-offs.
• Liaise with construction managers, planners and engineers.
• Conduct site visits to inform pricing and methodology.
• Stay informed of regulations, market trends and pricing shifts.
• Present tender submissions to finalisation committee and clients.
• Maintain adherence to deadlines and work under pressure.
