Civil / Water Engineer

Job Summary

Design and manage drawings of projects mainly in infrastructural services such as water supply and wastewater steel pipelines, water treatment plants, reservoirs, ensuring they meet project objectives.

Report to and work closely with the Snr Engineer, HOD Civil, and the project team.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead, manage, and guide Engineers, Technicians, Draughtspersons, and delegate work effectively within the Civil Engineering Department.
2. Ensure all team members are equipped with the relevant tools to perform their jobs.
3. Formulate systems for the smooth operation of the Civil Engineering section to enable synergy and coherence.
4. Design and report within the Civil Engineering section to meet project objectives.
5. Prepare proposals, tenders, and contract documents for infrastructure services both nationally and internationally.
6. Monitor construction and oversee site work, ensuring compliance with design specifications, standards, and project timelines.
7. Attend site meetings and prepare reports.
8. Perform ad-hoc office duties as assigned by the HoD: Civil Engineering.
9. Guide and train engineers and technicians in design and other necessary skills for continuous professional development.
10. Stay updated with technological developments and research in water and wastewater engineering.
11. Coordinate and supervise the production of technical drawings, design, and reporting inputs by supporting staff.
12. Liaise with clients, including meetings and reporting.
13. Ensure compliance with the company's Quality Management System and ISO requirements.
14. Assist in preparing requests for proposals, expressions of interest, panel applications, and tenders.
15. Manage projects and monitor performance and profitability.

Qualifications and Experience / Minimum Requirements

• BEng (Civil), BTech (Civil) degree or equivalent.
• Registration with ECSA as PrEng / PrTech, and SAICE or recognized professional body.
• Experience managing teams of junior employees, such as technicians and trainees.
• Minimum 8+ years in engineering design, management, and construction.
• Extensive experience with steel water pipelines, pump stations, reservoirs, abstraction works, and water treatment plants.
• Knowledge of Employee Equity Act, Labour and Employment laws, OHS Act, and design standards.
• Proficiency in MS Office, MS Project, and civil/water design software.
• Driver's License is essential.
