Job description

Job Summary

Design and manage drawings of projects mainly in infrastructural services such as water supply and wastewater steel pipelines, water treatment plants, reservoirs, ensuring they meet project objectives. Report and work closely with the Snr Engineer, HOD Civil, and the project team.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead, manage, and guide Engineers, technicians, draughts persons, and delegate work effectively in the Civil Engineering Department.
  2. Ensure that all team members are supplied with the relevant tools required to perform their jobs.
  3. Formulate systems for the smooth running of the Civil Engineering section to enable synergy and coherence.
  4. Design and report within the Civil Engineering section to meet project objectives.
  5. Prepare proposals, tender, and contract documents for infrastructure services both nationally and internationally.
  6. Monitor construction and oversee site work as required, including ensuring compliance with design, standards, and programme, attending site meetings, and preparing reports.
  7. Perform ad-hoc office duties as assigned by the HoD: Civil Engineering.
  8. Guide and train engineers and technicians in design and other skills for continuous professional development.
  9. Stay updated with technological developments and research in water and wastewater engineering.
  10. Coordinate and supervise the production of technical drawings, designs, and reporting inputs by supporting staff.
  11. Liaise with clients through meetings and reporting.
  12. Ensure compliance with the company’s ISO9001 Quality Management System.
  13. Assist in preparing requests for proposals, expressions of interest, panel applications, and tenders.
  14. Manage projects, monitor performance, and ensure profitability.
Qualifications and Experience / Minimum Requirements
  1. BEng (Civil), BTech (Civil) degree or equivalent.
  2. Must be professionally registered or registrable with ECSA as PrEng/PrTech, and SAICE or recognized professional body.
  3. Experience managing a team of junior employees such as technicians and trainees.
  4. Minimum of 8 years in engineering design, management, and construction.
  5. Extensive experience in designing and constructing steel water pipelines, pump stations, reservoirs, abstraction works, and water treatment plants.
  6. Knowledge of Employee Equity Act, Labour and Employment laws, OHS Act, and design compliance standards.
  7. Proficiency in MS Office, MS Project, and various civil and water design software.
  8. Driver’s Licence is essential.
  9. Ensure ISO compliance in Quality Management.
  10. Willingness to undertake inter-provincial and international site visits and meetings.
  11. Salary is negotiable.
