Duties and responsibilities
Water Loss Assessment
- Conduct comprehensive audits of our system to identify areas of water loss.
- Utilise advanced leak detection technologies and methodologies to pinpoint sources of water loss.
- Analyse water usage data to detect patterns and anomalies indicative of leaks or inefficiencies.
Strategy Development and Implementation
- Develop and implement strategies to reduce water loss, including infrastructure improvements and operational changes.
- Coordinate with engineering teams to design and execute water loss control projects.
- Monitor the effectiveness of implemented strategies and make necessary adjustments.
- Introduce AI and automation to reduce losses.
- Ensure all hardware and monitoring devices including meters and remote monitoring units are operational, maintained, programmed correctly and are the best and latest suitable equipment for the application and / or site.
- Plan, provide, implement and monitor budgets related to water loss.
Field Inspections and Monitoring
- Perform regular field inspections to ensure the integrity of the water distribution system.
- Use specialized equipment and services to detect and locate leaks in the system.
- Monitor water flow and pressure to identify potential issues.
Data Analysis and Reporting
- Collect and analyse data related to water loss and system performance.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations.
- Provide recommendations based on data analysis to improve system efficiency.
- Analyse and action meter aging, replacement, and gains / payback reports.
- Monthly Bulk readings & Data capturing.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with other service providers, engineers, and other departments to coordinate water loss reduction efforts.
- Engage with the community to raise awareness about water conservation and loss prevention.
- Participate in meetings and committees to discuss water management strategies.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all bylaws, provincial and national laws related to water management.
- Ensure compliance to SANS standards related to the designs for water systems to include water loss in bulk and link.
- Stay updated on new regulations and best practices in water loss control.
- Provide guidance on regulatory requirements to ensure adherence.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Water Resources Management, or a related field.
- A valid code 8 drivers license is essential.
- Minimum of 3-5 years in water loss control, leak detection, or related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in using leak detection technologies and data analysis tools.
- Excellent knowledge on instrumentation and the programming of loggers and related instrumentation devices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Knowledge of water distribution systems and regulatory requirements.
- Computer literate with Windows 365.
- Detail-oriented.
