Reporting Line
  • Operations Manager / General Manager
Main Purpose
  • Overall management of site operations.
  • Maintain production targets for each site and ensure each site operates within prescribed costs budgets. Coordinate and control activities of site staff and ensure all work complies with quality standards as set out in the contract and company policies and procedures.
  • Compile and submit claims for contract sites to Contracts Manager.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Pre-project preparation including familiarization with project specifications, special conditions, bill of quantities, and critical items.
  • Establish financial plans such as programme, resource schedule, break-even analysis, and measurement systems.
  • Ensure contractual requirements are fulfilled, checklists completed, and arrangements made for initial site meetings, existing services, camp setup, and organizational arrangements.
  • Manage project startup procedures, including quantities take-off and material ordering.
  • Supervise productivity by allocating work, overseeing setting out, instructing on processes, and monitoring progress.
  • Hold regular meetings to update on progress and requirements, highlighting critical activities.
  • Manage resources efficiently, monitor material usage, and ensure quality standards.
  • Maintain progress according to schedule and budget, update programmes, and control costs.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, oversee their activities, and hold regular meetings.
  • Prepare and submit progress and variation reports, claims, and invoices on time.
  • Maintain communication with clients, engineers, and authorities to meet contract requirements.
  • Lead and motivate the construction team, including subcontractors.
  • Maintain a safe site, ensuring health and safety compliance, secure equipment, and minimize public inconvenience.
  • Promote good labor relations and uphold the company's image.

Education and Experience Requirements
  • Relevant Degree or Diploma
  • SACPCMP registration or similar (preferable)
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar role within civil engineering
  • Experience in planning and programming (MS Projects or Candy)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Strong organizational, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and participate in new projects
