Job description

To provide discipline specific construction services to iX engineers in the water sector. The Civil Engineer’s knowledge of the water engineering discipline and good engineering practices, including design, construction monitoring and project management duties, will ensure an autonomous project execution while supporting the broader iX engineers’ business, values and vision.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY.

The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following tasks:

  • General project administration
  • Assist with the preparation of proposals
  • Ensure clear agreement of client objectives and that these are met or exceeded
  • Assist and adhere to HSE requirements during design stages
  • Design Engineer forming part of feasibility studies, conceptual design, detail design, implementation of projects
  • Management and control of health, safety and environmental risks associated with project activities
  • Development and implementation of initiatives to improve cost effectiveness and efficiency of the project execution
  • Effective management and control of risks through engineering designs
  • Presents designs, status reports to clients.
  • Facilitate and assist with the tender, evaluation and adjudication process leading up to contractor appointment and site handover.
  • Act as lead site supervision representative.
  • Undertake contract administration and construction monitoring duties.
  • Responsible for project administration from stage 1 to stage 6 (ECSA).
  • Compile status reports using the information provided by the Engineers
  • Facilitate close-out of completed projects.
  • Ensure effective communication with the project team.
  • Develop initiatives to improve the cost effectiveness and efficiency of project execution.

Education, Language & Qualifications

  • B Eng Civil Engineering degree.
  • Professional registration with ECSA or in process to register within 1 year from date of appointment would be an advantage.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years post degree experience in the Civil Engineering Water environment.
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary water projects.
  • AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D experience.
  • Strong technical background.
  • Safety awareness and responsibility.
  • Quality Assurance knowledge, awareness, and responsibility.
    • Demonstrable commitment to HSE management in a project environment.
    • Sound understanding of applicable engineering standards and codes of practice.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrate a visible and active commitment to (i) personal well-being; (ii) healthy and safe workplaces and activities; and (iii) continuously improve iX engineers’ health, safety and environmental performance.
