About the Role

Our client, a dynamic civil engineering firm located in the bustling hub of Sandton, Gauteng , is seeking a proficient Civil Engineer to specialize in stormwater and drainage systems. This role is integral to the design and implementation of sustainable urban drainage solutions, flood mitigation strategies, and the management of runoff for various development projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical understanding of hydraulic principles and a keen eye for detail in design and analysis. You will work collaboratively within a team of engineers and technicians, contributing to projects that enhance the resilience and functionality of urban environments. This position is based in our Sandton, Gauteng office, requiring your full-time commitment to project delivery and team collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop comprehensive stormwater management plans and drainage systems for commercial, residential, and industrial developments.
• Conduct hydraulic modeling and analysis to assess runoff, peak flows, and flood risks using relevant software.
• Prepare detailed engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and tender documents for stormwater infrastructure.
• Perform site investigations to gather data and assess existing drainage conditions.
• Ensure designs comply with all relevant national, provincial, and local regulations and standards.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, architects, and town planners to integrate drainage solutions seamlessly.
• Supervise the construction of stormwater infrastructure, ensuring quality and adherence to design specifications.
• Investigate and recommend solutions for existing drainage problems and flood-prone areas.
• Prepare technical reports and present findings to clients and stakeholders.
• Stay abreast of advancements in stormwater management techniques and sustainable drainage systems (SuDS).

Requirements

• Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or equivalent qualification.
• A minimum of 4 years of experience focused on stormwater and drainage engineering.
• Professional registration with ECSA as a Pr. Eng. or Techni Eng. is preferred.
• Proficiency in hydraulic modeling software such as SWMM, HEC-RAS, or similar.
• Strong knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D for design and drafting.
• Familiarity with South African environmental regulations and stormwater design guidelines.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills related to fluid dynamics and hydrology.
• Effective communication and report-writing capabilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative project team.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to conduct site visits.
