Placements24 is seeking a Civil Design Engineer specialized in stormwater management for East London, Eastern Cape. You will design and analyze stormwater drainage systems, perform hydrological studies, and prepare drawings and specifications in line with SANS and municipal requirements.

You will collaborate with engineers, town planners and local authorities, conduct site visits, and contribute to tender documents.

About the Role

Our client, a growing engineering consultancy based in East London, Eastern Cape , is seeking a skilled Civil Design Engineer with a specialization in Stormwater Management. This role is essential for supporting the design and implementation of effective drainage systems for various urban development and infrastructure projects within the region. You will be responsible for hydraulic modeling, designing open and closed stormwater systems, and preparing related drawings and specifications. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of hydrology and hydraulics, coupled with experience in using relevant design software. Key Responsibilities

• Design and analysis of stormwater drainage systems, including open channels, culverts, and piped networks.

• Prepare detailed design drawings, calculations, and technical specifications for stormwater infrastructure.


• Ensure designs comply with South African National Standards (SANS) and municipal requirements.


• Collaborate with project teams, including other engineers, architects, and urban planners.


• Conduct site visits for data collection, design verification, and construction supervision support.


• Assist in the preparation of tender documents and project proposals.


• Stay updated on best practices and emerging technologies in stormwater management and sustainable drainage systems (SuDS).

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.


• Professional registration with ECSA as a Candidate Engineer or Professional Engineer is preferred.


• A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in civil design, with a focus on stormwater management.


• Proficiency in stormwater modeling software (e.g., SWMM, HEC-RAS) and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D).


• Strong understanding of hydrological principles and hydraulic design.


• Knowledge of South African drainage standards and guidelines.


• Good analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.


• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage project tasks.


• Experience with projects in the Eastern Cape region is a plus.
