REPORTS TO

Section Manager and/or Function Manager

PRIMARY POSITION PURPOSE

To provide design and drafting services, prepare project documentation, and deliver appropriate technical support as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for all design and modelling aspects – from planning, conceptual design to detailed design and construction drawings of Roads, Stormwater, Water and Sewer Bulk Services and Reticulation, etc.
  • Assist with supervising small teams (Technicians, Students, Draughtsmen, Graduates)
  • Must be able to work in a team to support a leader but also take the lead on project designs.
  • Ensure that required drawing standards and construction supervision requirements are maintained and deliver excellent client service if required when client facing.
  • Prepare reports required by the project, implementation of all relevant codes of practice and ensuring that all work complies with SMEC’s quality control procedures
  • Support Senior Engineers/Technologists with project management and take lead when required.
  • Develop understanding of Functional Unit technologies and markets
  • Construction administration and monitoring
  • Apply SMEC’s quality systems and procedures and ensure enforcement
  • Working with clients and municipal line departments to capture their requirements
  • Develop specifications, BoQ’s, cost estimates, and prepare final tender documentation.

RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • B. Eng or B Tech Degree in Engineering

  • Proficiency in Civil 3D design and analysis software packages
  • Clear understanding of local functional business technologies and markets
