Job Opportunity: Civil Engineer – Water Specialist
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct hydraulic design and transient analysis for closed conduit systems (e.g., penstocks) and free surface conveyance systems.
- Design civil infrastructure components.
- Develop and execute detailed designs for run-of-the-river, conventional, and pumped storage hydropower projects, including energy yield modeling and cost estimation.
- Support business growth in the Dams & Hydropower sector by maintaining client relationships and contributing to proposal development.
- Manage small projects and lead specific work packages or tasks on medium-sized projects.
- Mentor and provide training for graduate engineers.
- Oversee and coordinate the creation of 3D digital models and 2D drawings for mechanical and civil infrastructure.
- Collaborate with other disciplines such as electrical, geotechnical, environmental, and structural engineering.
- Work closely with technicians, technologists, and fellow engineers.
- Conduct site visits for familiarization, high-level surveying, and observation of both greenfield and brownfield infrastructure projects.
- Interpret engineering design sketches, drawings, and as-built documentation for brownfield sites.
- Ensure high-quality deliverables, with a particular emphasis on compiling professional reports.
Minimum Requirements
- A BSc/BEng degree in Civil Engineering.
- Registered as a Candidate Engineer, with evidence of application submission to the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) for Professional Engineer status.
- At least 4 years of experience, ideally in water infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with digital modeling is advantageous.
- Prior experience in dams, hydropower, or bulk water systems (e.g., bulk conveyance and pump stations) is a plus.
- A proactive approach to learning and contributing to a growing mechanical team.
