Job summary

A consulting engineering firm is looking for a talented Civil Design Engineer to contribute to various civil infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will lead design tasks, ensure compliance with standards, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams while mentoring junior staff. Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

Job description

Our client in the consulting engineering industry is seeking a talented and motivated Civil Design Engineer to contribute to the planning, design, and documentation of civil infrastructure projects, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective engineering solutions.

The successful candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following :

  • Lead or contribute to the civil design of infrastructure projects (municipal services, roads, stormwater, sewer, water reticulation, etc.
  • Prepare detailed design drawings, calculations, and specifications using software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant codes, municipal regulations, and standards (SANS, TMH, Red Book, etc.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including structural, geotechnical, and environmental engineers.
  • Provide design input during feasibility studies, project planning, and tender documentation phases.
  • Assist in mentoring junior staff and contributing to the internal technical knowledge base.
  • Participate in site inspections and provide design support during construction when required.
  • Engage with clients and attend project meetings as the technical design lead when delegated.

RequirementsBachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (BSc or BEng).

Must be registered with ECSA as a Candidate Engineer or Professional Engineer (PrEng).

Must have 5–10 years' relevant experience in civil infrastructure design.

Strong design and technical reporting skills.

Proficiency in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and other design tools (e.g., Civil Designer, Bentley Open Roads, MS Projects).

Sound knowledge of design codes and municipal standards.

Valid driver's license and willingness to travel occasionally.
