A leading company is seeking a Civil Construction Estimator to manage tender processes, pricing, and cost management for projects. The ideal candidate will possess a degree in Civil Engineering or Quantity Surveying and have extensive experience in estimation. You will be responsible for collaborating with engineers and clients while ensuring that all tender documentation meets deadlines, leading to successful project execution.
Position: Civil Construction Estimator (Tenders)
Location: Cape Winelands
Salary: R50,000 R70,000 CTC
Requirements
Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering or Quantity Surveying
3-5 years of field experience
Minimum of 5 years estimating experience
Proficient in programming and estimator software
Strong attention to detail
Ability to function effectively under pressure
Advanced planning, administration, and time-costing skills
Strong negotiation skills with the ability to maintain client relationships
Willingness to work overtime when required
Responsibilities
Tender Administration
Request up-to-date FEM, BCCEI certificates, and related documentation in advance
Obtain current Tax Clearance Pin from the relevant department
Handle annual and 3-yearly CIDB renewals and upgrade applications
Tender Process (Phase 1)
Monitor advertisements for tender opportunities
Attend tender/site inspections
Request and compare material prices
Liaise with Consulting Engineers and request the BOQ
Clarify uncertainties before pricing
Price tenders using EJM software
Develop tender programs using MS Projects
Complete and submit all required tender documentation before deadlines
Tender Process (Phase 2 If Successful)
Negotiate improved material prices for the contract
Issue and follow up on bulk material orders
Coordinate and conduct kick-off meetings with Contract Manager, Site Agent, etc.
Construction Stage
Visit sites to compare actual outputs against tender assumptions
Adjust pricing or compile new rates for changes in scope or additional work
Reports
Review Site Certificate Register and project reports prior to distribution
Collaborate with the QS on cost management reports
EJM Management
Update and maintain the Masterbill
Correct errors and discrepancies promptly with line management or Ernst Marais
Cost Management
Co-manage cost reports with the QS
Lead and facilitate cost management meetings
Public Relations
Maintain effective communication with suppliers, clients, and engineers
Draft formal correspondence as required
Other
Perform additional tasks as reasonably requested, in line with your skills
