Fruitways is a leading agri-business in South Africa. We specialise in the growing, packing and marketing of apples and pears to retailers, traders and wholesalers around the globe.

CIVIL ARTISAN (ENGINEERING)

We have an exciting career opportunity for a Civil Artisan based at our Mara farm near Grabouw. Reporting to the Civil Manager, the ideal candidate needs to have technical problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform and manage repairs on buildings and civil infrastructure across all packhouses and farms
  • Execution and reporting of preventative maintenance programs
  • Maintenance on water and sewer infrastructure
  • Conduct inspections, evaluation, budgets and reports
  • Provide feedback to line management
  • Provide input to planned maintenance budget requirements and capital expenditure
  • Procure and manage parts and supplies
  • Inventory management (CMMS)
  • Supervision of subordinates and assign daily tasks to team members and contractors
  • Keep working area and equipment clean and safe
  • Ensure the activities comply with the most recent regulations and building codes
  • Respond promptly to emergencies and failures

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 qualification with a valid South African driver’s license
  • Minimum N3 in Building and Civil Engineering, Trade Test advantageous
  • 5+ years of relevant experience with strong technical knowledge of building structures and civil infrastructure
  • Understanding of mechanical and electrical systems highly preferred
  • Knowledge of firefighting equipment and related safety systems is advantageous
  • Working knowledge of water treatment plants and associated systems
  • Computer literacy: MS Office (especially Excel) and CMMS
  • Sound understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, regulations, and applicable codes
  • Flexibility to work overtime and participate in standby rotations as required
  • Basic training in tools
