Job Purpose

The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) is recruiting young, physically and mentally fit individuals who are committed to a professional policing career. Successful applicants will undergo 18 months of structured training and will be deployed in traffic policing, by-law enforcement, and crime prevention duties.

Applicants must meet the following selection criteria:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) certificate – attach documentary proof
  • Valid manual driver’s licence – must pass a practical driving test
  • South African citizen and resident of Tshwane – include proof of residence and affidavit if surname differs from registered owner
  • Aged 18 to 35 years
  • Medically fit – submit a medical certificate
  • Must pass physical fitness, psychometric, and English proficiencyassessments
  • Must have no criminal record or pending cases
  • Not listed on the sexual or child offender register
  • Not previously dismissed from government due to misconduct
  • Must not have visible tattoos when in uniform
  • Not declared incompetent to own a firearm under the Firearms Control Act
  • Must be willing to sign a Code of Conduct
Duties and Responsibilities

Upon successful completion of training, Metro Police Officers will:

  • Enforce the National Road Traffic Act (Act 93 of 1996)
  • Enforce municipal by-laws and regulations
  • Participate in crime prevention operations
