Job description

CHOC is a non-profit organisation made up of caring, committed and passionate people who stand up for and support the well-being of children and teenagers diagnosed with cancer or life-threatening blood disorders and their families.

CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa seeks to appoint a PMB Regional Assistant.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. To ensure the effective day-to-day running of the house and pastoral care.
  2. To manage the House Support Staff.
  3. To ensure that appropriate meals are prepared for the children and parents/caregivers.
  4. To hand over groceries to relevant families who meet the necessary policies.
  5. To manage the transportation of children, parents/caregivers to the treatment center and to undertake transport duties in the absence of the driver/handyman.
  6. To ensure that children are ready for outings and activities and that the necessary indemnities are signed by the parents/caregivers.
  7. To ensure that Health and Safety legislation is complied with.
  8. To manage the collection of donations and ensure that thank-you letters are sent.
  9. To manage the gardener and any contractor assigned to the property.
  10. To ensure that catering is provided for meetings as required.
  11. To run weekly maintenance and staff meetings with the CHOC House staff, follow-ups for CHOC Houses and attend meetings in Durban.
  12. To maintain a relationship with the medical team and Social Workers at the POU and ensure CHOC policies are adhered to when admitting patients with their caregivers.
  13. To maintain a daily Activity Report for the House Staff and submit to the Regional Manager monthly.
  14. To purchase food, household linen, and cleaning materials and manage stock control.
  15. To collect CHOC House petty cash sheets for submission to the Regional Coordinator and ensure that the amount received balances with the amounts disbursed.
  16. To disburse transport funds to relevant families who meet the transport policy criteria.
  17. To work closely with the Regional Coordinator.
  18. Establishing, coordinating, and maintaining parental and family support groups at the CHOC House.
  19. Maintaining a database of survivors, parents, bereaved families in liaison with the Social Worker in the region.
  20. Assisting with the development & management of the parents' groups and survivor groups.
  21. Assist with the recruitment, selection, and training of volunteers to assist in programmes and activities.
  22. Assisting with the development of programmes in local and outlying designated areas.
  23. Assisting with the community outreach programme.
  24. Assisting with regional general awareness campaigns.
  25. In liaison with the National Office seek opportunities to roll out the awareness training and education programme in the region and also assisting with identifying, developing, and maintaining local and regional partnerships with local Government Departments, organisational and individual stakeholders.
  26. Create a donor pipeline of potential donors in the area.
  27. Assisting with the promotion and support of national awareness campaigns in the region.
  28. Assisting with fundraising initiatives as per RM request.
  29. Undertake capturing of all information pertaining to our programmes onto CRM programme and submit monthly Narrative and Stats Reports, timeously.
  30. Inform the Durban office of all cash and kind donations with relevant details, in writing.
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION:
  1. Minimum Tertiary qualification in Humanity and Social Science or Community Development/Communications.
  2. Minimum three years proven experience working with social interventions or programme management/coordination within the development sector (health-related field will be a distinct advantage).
  3. Proven experience in Public Speaking and PowerPoint Presentations.
  4. Training/Facilitation/Skills development background would be advantageous.
  5. Proven Computer Skills i.e. Microsoft Office Suite (experience using information management systems); Excel; PowerPoint and CRM.
  6. Good understanding of project/programme management.
  7. A team player who also works well independently.
  8. A strong work ethic; accuracy; accountability; honesty & integrity; a master at time management; good interpersonal skills; strong alignment with CHOC's mission and values.
  9. Fluency in English and isiZulu.
  10. Can communicate at all levels and build sustainable relationships.
  11. Proactive and innovative.
  12. Must have a valid driver's license.
  13. Live-in position with alternate weekends off.
