Job description

Lorn and the Islands Hospital, located in Oban on the west coast of Scotland, is seeking an enthusiastic, visionary consultant physician to join our team. This role offers the option to fulfill the Lead Physician role within a rural general hospital setting, focused on delivering high-quality healthcare while supporting a healthy work-life balance.

The hospital serves the population of Argyll and provides a full 24-hour medical, surgical, and anesthetic service, along with on-site radiology. The successful candidate will work with dedicated junior doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals, managing patient care from admission to discharge, in a setting that emphasizes quality and patient experience.

Rural Emergency Physicians, typically senior doctors on the specialist register from GP or ED backgrounds, help ensure safe and smooth front-door operations and support training and supervision of junior staff, reducing the time commitment for consultant physicians.

Oban is renowned for its natural beauty, with ferry links to nearby islands and a vibrant culture of music and outdoor pursuits. It offers a high quality of life, good local schools, and reasonable property prices, with easy access to major cities within a few hours.

This vacancy is offered on a basis of 10 Programmed Activities per week, with an on-call supplement of 1:4, and up to 2 additional PAs by negotiation. Part-time applications are welcome. Candidates are encouraged to visit the hospital and the surrounding area.
