The Water Research Commission (WRC) invites suitably qualified and experienced individuals to apply for the Pretoria-based position of Chief Risk Officer.

The WRC is a Schedule 3A public entity, and adherence to relevant legislation is imperative to the organization's strategy and values.
About the role
This position requires an independent, results-driven strategic thinker who will be accountable for risk management operations and compliance within the WRC.
The Chief Risk Officer will be part of the Office of the CEO and will report to the Executive: Operations.
The role involves providing strategic direction in implementing and managing risks, ethics, business continuity, and compliance frameworks by leveraging people, processes, and technology transformation opportunities.
This includes leading and managing compliance, risk management, and ethics functions.
Applicants must possess a three-year NQF Level 7 qualification in Internal Audit, Risk Management, Accounting, or a related field, and be members of the Institute of Risk Management South Africa (IRMSA).
A Post-graduate qualification in a related field is an advantage.
A minimum of 10 years' experience in risk management within the public sector is required, with at least 5 years in management positions.
Knowledge of legislative frameworks governing public entities (e.g., PFMA, Treasury Regulations, Water Research Act), as well as Risk Management Frameworks by National Treasury, Corporate Governance (King IV), COSO, and ISO standards, is essential.
The appointment will align with the WRC's employment equity plan.
