Job Description: Chief Operating Officer Johannesburg

Annual Salary: Up to R 1 800 000 negotiable

Position: Head of Department TA Management Board (Initially)

Review Period: Appraisal reviews to be held Quarterly

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a key executive position responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and ensuring the efficient functioning of the organization. As COO, you will work closely with the executive team to develop and implement strategies and processes aligned with overall goals. Your primary responsibilities include ensuring the soundness of all functions reporting to you, optimizing processes, managing resources, continuous improvement, governance, supporting company growth, and mitigating risks. Your leadership, strategic vision, and strong operations experience, combined with business acumen, will be essential in driving growth, improving operational efficiency, and fostering a collaborative work environment. Your role is critical to the smooth functioning and growth of the company, contributing significantly to achieving objectives and maintaining a competitive edge in the market.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Oversee functions such as Delivery, Risk Management, PMO, Finance, and Human Resources.
  • Implement business strategies and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies aligned with the company's mission and objectives.
  • Oversee daily operations, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Identify operational challenges and address them to ensure sustainable, scalable operations.
  • Identify areas for process improvement and streamline operations to enhance productivity.
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing operations team, fostering a culture of excellence.
  • Collaborate with the executive team to set and achieve company goals.
  • Oversee resource allocation, including financial, human, and technological resources.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and develop risk management strategies.
  • Implement KPIs and metrics to monitor performance and make data-driven decisions.
  • Foster cross-departmental collaboration for seamless workflow and communication.
  • Maintain industry knowledge, develop stakeholder relationships, and implement best practices in payments processing.
  • Develop and manage the operational budget, monitor financial metrics, and ensure profitability.

Qualifications and Experience

Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field. An MBA or advanced degree is an advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years in a leadership role, with 2-3 years in a COO or related position, preferably in fintech, payments, or transactional banking sectors.
