A leading maritime company is seeking a Chief Mate responsible for managing dredge operations while ensuring compliance with international regulations. The role requires overseeing the safe navigation of the vessel, training deck personnel, and maintaining compliance with safety standards. Ideal candidates will have a STCW 95 certification and at least three years of experience in a similar role.
To represent the Master in overall charge of the ship, responsible for the safe handling, manoeuvring, and navigation thereof as governed by the International Maritime Organisation statutes, and to maintain an effective, efficient dredge operation allowing for optimum utilisation of resources, thereby ensuring maximum dredging output whilst ensuring the safety of ship and crew.
Take on Master's legal responsibilities and accountabilities in his absence, as applicable.
Knowledge required: Employee relations and practices, computer literacy, versed in DGPS navigational systems.
Skills required: Ship handling experience, leadership qualities, communication skills.
Preference will be given to suitably qualified applicants who are members of the designated groups in line with the Employment Equity Plan and Targets of the Organisation/Operating Division.
