Job description

We are seeking a visionary and results-driven Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) to lead the company brand, growth, product, and performance marketing functions with a strong emphasis on AI-driven innovation . As a key member of the executive leadership team, the CMO will shape and execute the company’s holistic marketing strategy—leveraging advanced data, automation, and AI technologies to drive measurable growth, deepen customer engagement, and reinforce the companies position as a fintech leader for SMEs in South Africa.

This role is ideal for a strategic leader who blends creativity with data intelligence, and who can inspire teams to drive business impact across all customer touchpoints.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & AI Enablement

  • Define and drive the company’s end-to-end marketing vision, integrating AI and automation across performance, product, and brand functions.
  • Build a culture of data-driven, insight-led decision-making , enhancing marketing impact through predictive analytics, customer segmentation, and AI-powered personalisation.
  • Champion the use of martech tools, AI models, and real-time dashboards to deliver scalable, automated campaigns and improved ROI.

Brand & Product Positioning

  • Lead the development of the companies brand as South Africa’s premier SME fintech partner—ensuring consistency, relevance, and trust across all platforms.
  • Define and articulate product value propositions using market intelligence and AI-generated customer insights .
  • Launch go-to-market strategies for new products, with messaging that aligns tightly with business objectives and market demand.

Performance & Growth Marketing

  • Own the performance marketing strategy, driving growth through paid media, AI-powered targeting, and CRM platforms.
  • Apply AI-based attribution models and real-time optimisation to increase conversion efficiency and lower acquisition costs.
  • Manage the marketing budget with an emphasis on forecasting using predictive analytics.

Content & Community

  • Oversee the creation of compelling content strategies, enhanced by AI tools for tone, SEO, and audience alignment.
  • Foster a strong and engaged SME community through storytelling, advocacy programs, and educational content.
  • Partner with product, sales, customer success, and technology teams to align marketing with overall business strategy.
  • Present marketing outcomes, insights, and forecasts to the executive team and board using AI-enhanced visualisation tools.
  • Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing, multidisciplinary marketing team.
  • Build internal capabilities in growth, content, digital, and AI-powered marketing.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and performance excellence.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Marketing, Business, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 10+ years in progressive marketing roles, including senior / executive leadership experience.
  • Demonstrable experience in AI-powered marketing , martech stacks, and automation tools (e.g. Segment, Iterable, ChatGPT, Jasper, HubSpot, etc.).
  • Strong track record in B2B fintech or SME-focused sectors.
  • Experience with attribution modelling, advanced CRM, and performance tracking systems.
  • Exceptional leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
  • Strategic and analytical thinker with a strong commercial mindset.
  • Deep knowledge of modern digital and AI marketing ecosystems.
  • Able to balance innovation with execution in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong influencer and collaborator at all levels of the organisation.
  • Self-driven, curious, and continually seeking to stay ahead of marketing trends.
