Job Purpose
The CIO is a technology leader responsible for enabling the business objectives of Business and Commercial Banking (BCB) through innovative use of technology and data.
Operating Model
Operating within an ninabox model, they collaborate closely with BCB counterparts (e.g., Chief Product Officer) while overseeing tribe tech leads and balancing both BCB-specific and enterprise-wide technology responsibilities.
Job Responsibilities
- Technology Strategy and Leadership:
- Develop and implement a technology strategy aligned with BCB's business objectives, leveraging technology and data to drive growth.
- Partner with the Chief Product Officer and other BCB leaders to identify and prioritize technology-enabled opportunities.
- Oversee the adoption of an ninabox operating model ensuring seamless integration of technology solutions within BCB.
- Monitor and manage BCB's KPIs such as business value generation, lead time, release frequency, change failure rates, system performance, data utilization, and customer satisfaction to measure success.
- Tribe Management & Tech/Engineering Excellence:
- Provide leadership to tech leads within BCB's tribes, fostering innovation, accountability, and technical excellence.
- Guide tribe teams and engineers in delivering technology and data solutions supporting BCB priorities.
- Facilitate collaboration between tribe tech leads and cluster business/product leaders to ensure goal alignment.
- Build a high-performing technology and engineering culture within BCB, focusing on skill development and agile practices.
- BCB-Specific Technology Enablement:
- Drive deployment of BCB-specific systems, applications, and data platforms across the full SDLC.
- Ensure BCB's technology infrastructure supports scalability, security, and compliance, partnering with Group Technology.
- Champion data-driven insights to enhance decision-making and customer experience.
- Lead digital transformation initiatives specific to BCB, such as AI or automation adoption.
- Contribute to bank-wide projects that span multiple clusters, including enterprise initiatives like system upgrades and cybersecurity enhancements.
- Represent BCB interests in enterprise technology strategies, balancing resources and priorities.
- Manage dependencies and timelines for enterprise projects to ensure minimal disruption.
- Risk, Compliance & Innovation:
- Implement cybersecurity and data protection measures to safeguard BCB operations and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Identify and mitigate technology risks within BCB.
- Stay ahead of industry trends by integrating emerging technologies into BCB and enterprise initiatives.
- Ensure all practices adhere to governance standards and regulations.
- IT Service Management:
- Run the bank with objectives focused on availability, reliability, resilience, security, compliance, and efficiency.
- Prioritize asset health with clear roadmaps to keep applications relevant.
- Data Analytics and Insights:
- Lead BCB's analytics team to design impactful projects that provide actionable insights for business performance.
- Align analytics priorities with BCB's business goals.
- Guide data strategy and architecture supporting analytics use cases.
- Provide leadership on modern technologies like AI and GenAI, collaborating with Group Analytics.
- Develop self-serve analytics tools to empower users with data-driven decision-making.
- Support innovation through new analytical approaches, staying updated with industry trends.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of banking regulations and cybersecurity best practices.
- Deep understanding of banking systems, data analytics, and emerging technologies (e.g., AI, cloud).
- Proficiency in data-driven decision-making and analytics platforms.
- Understanding of modern engineering practices, agile methodologies, cyber & information security, AI / GenAI / ML.
- Expertise in data analytics, strategy, governance, and regulatory compliance.
Qualifications
- Essential Qualifications: NQF Level: Professional Qualifications / Honours Degree.
- Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's in Computer Science, IT, Data Science, Business Administration, or related; Master's (e.g., MBA) or certifications (e.g., ITIL, TOGAF, PMP, CDMP) preferred.
- Formal certification from relevant professional bodies.
