Job description

Job Title: Chief Financial Officer

Department: Finance

Location: Head Office

Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer

Direct reports: 4 – Financial Accountant, Management Accountant, Procurement Manager, Business Audit Manager

Main purpose of the job

The Chief Financial Officer is ultimately responsible and accountable for overseeing the entire Finance function at the PPECB.

Responsibilities include all financial aspects of PPECB operations, such as preparing financial statements and reports, budgeting and forecasting; implementing internal controls to safeguard assets; providing relevant and timely financial information to the CEO, Executives, Senior Management, and the Board; overseeing the selection and implementation of financial and non-financial business systems; and raising awareness among financial and non-financial members about the financial implications of their decisions.

High level job objectives

The CFO is accountable for the strategic financial and risk management of PPECB, including:

  • Developing a financial program and metrics aligned with the strategy
  • Monitoring control systems to preserve assets
  • Reporting accurate financial results

The CFO is responsible for executing their functions and those of their direct reports effectively.

Key responsibilities include
  • Financial Planning, Modelling, and Analysis: Developing financial plans, forecasts, and analyzing performance to support strategic goals.
  • Budgeting and Reporting: Designing and coordinating the budgeting process, preparing reports, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating financial risks, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Capital Management: Developing strategies for capital raising, managing cash flow, and investment decisions.
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborating on financial strategies supporting long-term goals.
  • Team Management: Overseeing the finance team, including hiring, training, and development.
  • Compliance: Ensuring adherence to accounting standards and regulations, interfacing with auditors and regulatory bodies.
Requirements
Qualifications
  • Essential: BCom Honours / BBusSc in Finance / Accounting or equivalent
  • Desirable: Completed articles, CA(SA) / CIMAX, senior management programs
Experience
  • Essential: 15+ years in financial management, costing, and accounting; minimum 5 years at senior management level; 5+ years in project, change management, and strategy development; 10+ years team management experience
  • Desirable: Experience in the perishable produce export industry
Knowledge
  • Essential: Knowledge of PFMA, Supply Chain Regulations, GRAP, tax laws, financial modeling, costing, corporate governance, risk management, government operations, and export logistics
Technical and Functional Skills
  • Strategy development, financial analysis, MS Office, ERP, contract management, data analytics, change management
Behavioral Competencies
