DESCRIPTION
We are seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join a growing IPP in South Africa. As the CFO, you will work closely with the Group CFO and CEO to guide the financial direction of the business. You'll be responsible for managing financial operations, ensuring effective capital management, strategic planning, and risk mitigation.
You will be leading a finance function mainly with energy trading (wheeling), and managing relationships with investors, lenders, and other stakeholders. Your expertise in financial engineering, treasury, and asset management will help to oversee the company's financial processes and ensure governance structures that align with business objectives. Having experience in scaling medium-sized businesses into large enterprises, including exposure to large-scale infrastructure transactions and project lifecycle accounting will be advantageous in this role.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in finance or commerce, CA (SA)
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- 15+ years in senior finance roles, preferably in renewable energy, energy, banking, or infrastructure
- Experience in scaling medium-sized businesses into large enterprises, including exposure to large-scale infrastructure transactions and project lifecycle accounting.
- Expertise in financial engineering and reporting
- Asset / Liability management experience
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Lead financial strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives in energy trading and wheeling
- Work with leadership to identify new market opportunities, commercial structures, and financial models that support growth
- Establish a high-performing finance function with strong governance, reporting, and operational execution
- Develop financial strategies that enhance capital efficiency and long-term value creation
- Oversee financial planning, forecasting, and performance analysis, ensuring sound decision-making
- Design and manage financial models for pricing, margin analysis, and capital allocation within energy markets
- Ensure financial processes and reporting structures support operational and strategic goals
- Manage capital requirements, including funding drawdowns and equity guarantee processes
- Oversee debt and equity financing, ensuring access to capital for infrastructure investments
- Maintain strong relationships with investors, lenders, and financial institutions to support business growth
- Risk & Compliance Management
- Implement financial controls and risk management strategies to ensure regulatory and contractual compliance
- Oversee treasury, insurance, and financial reporting, ensuring accuracy and transparency
- Mitigate financial risks associated with energy trading transactions and infrastructure investments
- Industry Expertise & Market Knowledge
- Apply expertise in financial structuring, revenue recognition, and risk management within the energy sector
- Manage financial operations across project finance, asset management, and regulatory compliance
