Job description

The Innovative Pharmaceutical Association South Africa (IPASA) is seeking to appoint a dynamic industry leader to serve as its Chief Executive Officer .

This full-time position is based at our offices in Midrand and reports to the Association's Executive Committee and Council.

The overall responsibility for this role is to provide strategic leadership and ensure the effective operational management of IPASA on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis.

This includes advancing IPASA's mission, vision, and both short- and long-term goals.

The role is accountable for the organisation's overall success, with the aim of positioning IPASA as a key influencer in the health sector and a valued partner in South Africa's healthcare system through its innovative pharmaceutical member companies.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Strategic Leadership - Responsible for the strategic and operational functioning of IPASA as guided by IPASA's strategy, business plans, EXCO and Council objectives; and in so doing develop and drive an IPASA business scorecard with appropriate KPI metrics converted into meaningful reporting to the Exco and Board
• Operational Management - Ensure the effective operations management of the IPASA office in terms of effective policies, procedures, processes and practices are implemented to ensure delivery of IPASA's business strategy
• Financial and Systems Management - Ensure effective financial management of IPASA finances, annual budgeting, tracking of expenses and accounts payables, statutory returns and ensuring accounts receivables (membership fees) are within recommended levels, and other financial management functions
• Stakeholder Relationship Management - Drive and maintain robust collaborative engagements and influence Policy where applicable, with / within relevant external International and Local Governmental, Healthcare Funders and other Healthcare Association related stakeholders, as well as within Members' companies, that are instrumental to the IPASA achieving it strategic objectives.
• Team Leadership - Lead, manage, support IPASA staff to ensure an efficient, effective, results oriented, innovative and successful team from an operational perspective.

JOB REQUIREMENTS Qualifications and relevant experience

• Relevant post-graduate qualifications with preference given to : PHD or Doctoral degree in health sciences or related medical / scientific discipline at NQF level 10; Business related post graduate degree at NQF level 8; Post graduate qualification in Health Economics, Pharmacoeconomics, Public Health, Economics or Business required; Business Management related certification (added advantage)
• At least 15 years' experience in the Pharmaceutical or related Healthcare Industry in R&D and / or medicines registration and / or market access and public policy influence with at least 8 to 10 of these years in 'people influencing' roles Knowledge
• Knowledge ofIntellectual Property and Global Trends in the Pharmaceutical Industry
• Association registration and legislative parameters, business purpose, structure and functioning
• Working knowledge of the laws and Government policies affecting the health sector and in particular the pharmaceutical industry
• Pharmaceutical Industry landscape and stakeholder focus understanding
• SA and African country healthcare laws and regulations pertaining to the Pharmaceutical Industry
• Business acumen and understanding
• Pharmaceutical Industry Marketing Code of Practice
• Market Access Channels
• Policy formulation processes
• Regulatory processes Skills
• Strategic roll out and implementation management, and performance monitoring, measurement and reporting
