Job Description
A Hotel Chief Engineer plays a crucial role in the hospitality industry, overseeing the maintenance and repair of all facilities and equipment within a hotel. Responsibilities include:
Ensuring operational efficiency of systems like HVAC, plumbing, electrical wiring, and elevators
Developing and implementing preventive maintenance programs to extend the life of hotel equipment and systems
Managing and training the engineering team for daily maintenance and repair tasks
Coordinating with other departments to meet all equipment and facility needs
Handling emergency situations promptly and professionally
Overseeing budgets and expenses related to maintenance
Keeping up-to-date with industry standards and safety regulations
Recommending new equipment and technology to enhance hotel efficiency and guest satisfaction
Ensuring compliance with environmental regulations
Qualifications
University qualification or certification in Engineering or Facility management
Previous experience in hotel maintenance is required
In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations
Strong problem-solving abilities, leadership skills, and the capability to manage teams effectively
At least five years of experience in a similar role
Able to legally work in South Africa
