CHIEF DIRECTOR - LEGAL SERVICES (Five-Year Fixed Term Contract)

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Grade 12 certificate, a recognized LLB degree or equivalent four-year legal qualification (NQF Level 7).
  • Admission as an Attorney or Advocate of the High Court of South Africa.
Experience and Knowledge:
  • Minimum of five years' experience at a senior management level in a legal environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of Medico-legal litigation, claims management, Labour law, dispute resolution, policy interpretation, legal compliance, legal drafting, litigation strategy, contract negotiation, subordinate legislation development, and legal risk mitigation.
  • Understanding of the Constitution of South Africa and applicable legislation in the public health sector.

  • Service delivery innovation, problem-solving, communication, client orientation, and customer focus.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide strategic legal leadership and serve as the principal legal advisor to the MEC and senior management.
  2. Manage legal services including litigation, medico-legal claims, labour relations, and contract management.
  3. Draft legal opinions, develop and review legislation, and ensure legal compliance.
  4. Oversee contract scrutiny, stakeholder engagement, and manage external legal partners.
  5. Supervise legal document preparation and manage human and financial resources.
  6. Identify legal risks and implement preventative measures.
