Job description

We are seeking a talented individual to join our LCPA team at Marsh. This role will be based in Sandton with a hybrid work model, requiring at least three days a week in the office.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the business complies with ethical practices, internal policies, and legislation. Responsibilities include team leadership, regulatory liaison, managing change projects, compliance monitoring, training, reporting, and remediation across the Africa region.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Monitoring regulatory developments impacting the business and ensuring implementation.
  2. Supporting the business with regulatory monitoring methodologies.
  3. Developing and implementing compliance monitoring and training plans.
  4. Establishing and maintaining regulatory compliance controls.
  5. Advising the business on compliance and regulatory matters.
  6. Preparing for upcoming legal and regulatory changes in the region.
  7. Developing internal controls, policies, and guidelines to ensure compliance.
  8. Drafting compliance reports and legal opinions.
  9. Maintaining the FAIS representative register.
  10. Leading and developing the Compliance team.
  11. Collaborating across the IMEA LCPA function.
  12. Providing FAIS advice to HR regarding FAIS and CPD requirements.
  13. Engaging with regulators across the region as required.

Minimum requirements:

  1. Qualified FAIS compliance officer meeting FSCA requirements for internal compliance officers (Category I FSP).
  2. Tertiary degree (LLB, BCom Law, or similar) or relevant qualification as per FSCA's list.
  3. At least 5 years experience as a senior compliance officer in the financial services industry, with supporting testimonials.
  4. RE 1 certificate and Phase I & II approval by FSCA.
  5. Postgraduate Diploma in Compliance Management preferred.
  6. Experience liaising with regulatory bodies.
  7. Strong knowledge of applicable laws and regulations (FAIS, Treating Customers Fairly, Insurance Act, Financial Services Regulations, FIC Act, etc.).
  8. Experience managing compliance queries, training, and team leadership.
  9. Working in a multinational environment with matrix reporting.
  10. Valid passport or eligibility to obtain one.
  11. International compliance experience is beneficial.
  12. Excellent communication skills in English, analytical mindset, assertiveness, and ability to work under pressure.
