Our client in the Broadcasting and Media Industry is looking for an exceptional Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) to lead the organisation’s commercial division and drive sustainable revenue growth across their broadcast and digital platforms. This is a 5 Year Contract to be based at their offices in Johannesburg.

Reporting directly to the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), the CCO will be responsible for developing and executing innovative commercial strategies, overseeing Sales, Revenue Management, and Business Intelligence, and ensuring financial viability aligned to both the broadcasting mandate and commercial objectives. This is a high-impact executive role that requires strategic foresight, operational excellence, and deep experience in commercial leadership within media, technology, or broadcast industries.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Drive advertising, sponsorship, and commercial revenue across TV, radio, and digital channels.
  • Monetize content through legacy asset optimisation, digital distribution, and innovative funding models.
  • Develop business models to ensure long-term financial sustainability and market competitiveness.
  • Shape and implement commercial strategy in line with public interest and revenue goals.
  • Leverage data analytics, AI, and audience insights to improve content value and audience engagement.
  • Commercialise key assets, including sports rights, to support public service delivery and profitability.

Stakeholder & Partnership Management:

  • Forge strategic partnerships with broadcasters, funders, and technology leaders both locally and globally.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (Strategy, Finance, Content, Innovation) to align commercial initiatives.
  • Influence policy discussions with National Treasury, ICASA, and other key stakeholders.

Operational Excellence & Governance:

  • Lead and manage the Commercial Division, ensuring efficient day-to-day operations and performance.
  • Embed strong governance practices, risk management, and compliance with regulatory frameworks.
  • Shape a high-performance culture that motivates talent and drives innovation.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Qualifications: A relevant Master’s degree (NQF 9) in Business Management, Strategy, Finance, Commercial Leadership, or related field.

Experience:

  • 10+ years’ experience in Executive Management roles within commercial, media, or technology industries.
  • At least 5 years leading Sales, Revenue, or Commercial functions with multi-channel revenue streams.
  • Proven ability to deliver complex commercial strategies and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Strong understanding of media regulations, governance (PFMA, Treasury), and public broadcasting dynamics.
