Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering required.
• Minimum 6 years in project engineering/management within chemical, petrochemical, or industrial manufacturing sectors.
• Strong knowledge of PM methodologies, scheduling tools, and cost control techniques.
• Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and manage remote and on-site responsibilities.

About the Role

Our client, a dynamic player in industrial infrastructure development, is seeking a skilled Chemical Project Engineer to contribute to their projects based in Randburg, Gauteng . This role involves managing and executing chemical engineering aspects of diverse industrial plant projects from conception through to commissioning. The ideal candidate will have a robust understanding of project management principles combined with strong chemical engineering expertise, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards. This hybrid position allows for strategic remote planning and analysis, complemented by essential on-site project oversight.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the engineering, design, procurement, and construction phases of industrial chemical plant projects.


• Develop detailed project scopes, schedules, and budgets in collaboration with project stakeholders.


• Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, civil) to ensure integrated project design.


• Oversee vendor selection, contract negotiation, and performance management for equipment and services.


• Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements throughout the project lifecycle.


• Conduct technical reviews, site inspections, and risk assessments.


• Troubleshoot technical issues that arise during project execution and commissioning.


• Prepare project reports, progress updates, and financial forecasts.


• Facilitate effective communication between the project team, clients, and regulatory bodies.


• Effectively balance remote project management tasks with on-site supervision and collaboration in the Randburg area and project sites.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering.


• A minimum of 6 years of experience in project engineering or project management within the chemical, petrochemical, or industrial manufacturing sectors.


• Proven track record of successfully managing industrial projects from initiation to completion.


• Strong understanding of project management methodologies, scheduling tools (e.g., MS Project), and cost control techniques.


• Knowledge of relevant engineering codes, standards, and regulations.


• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.


• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, managing both remote and on-site responsibilities.


• Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.


• Proficiency in process design and simulation software is an advantage.


• Must be legally authorized to work in South Africa .
