Job description

Are you a chef looking to do something a little different? We have an exciting opportunity for a Chef to travel between three retail stores based in Paarl, Stellenbosch, and Vergelegen.

The position will be a 6-month fixed-term contract with a high possibility of becoming permanent, working only 4 days a week from Thursdays to Sundays during retail hours.

Job Purpose :

As a Chef / Promoter, you will be responsible for preparing a variety of food items in accordance with company recipes and food safety standards. Your primary duties will include cooking, grilling, frying, and assembling food products for promotion/sale to customers. You will work closely with the company's counter team and adhere to established procedures to ensure the quality and freshness of our food offerings.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Prepare meat items according to standardized recipes and portion sizes.
  • Operate cooking equipment such as fryers/hot plates safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in the demo area, including proper storage of food products and regular cleaning of equipment and surfaces.
  • Monitor food temperatures during cooking and holding to ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
  • Follow proper food handling procedures to minimize waste and maintain product quality.
  • Assist in inventory management by accurately counting and recording food items and supplies.
  • Communicate effectively with the counter team to coordinate food preparation and service.
  • Provide excellent customer service by greeting customers, answering questions about meat items, and fulfilling special requests as needed.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including dress code and safety guidelines.
  • Attend training sessions and meetings as required to stay updated on food preparation techniques, menu changes, and safety protocols.
  • Adhere to all WW ways of working.

Skills and Qualifications required :

  • Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a retail or food service environment.
  • Knowledge/recommendations of basic cooking techniques, meat recipes (essential), and food safety principles.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when needed.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Work in a hot and noisy environment.
  • Own reliable transport and a valid driver's license.
  • Outgoing personality would be ideal.
