Job description

Business Manager / Chartered Accountant

A socially responsible housing enterprise based in Durban, dedicated to providing quality housing solutions to the community, and committed to ensuring safe and sustainable living environments for all, with a tenant base of approximately 1, units, is actively seeking an experienced Business Manager / Chartered Accountant. As the Business Manager / Chartered Accountant, the successful individual will hold a dual role, combining strategic business management with financial expertise to drive the success and sustainability of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervision of finance team including Accountant General, Accountant Debtors, and Creditors Clerk
  2. Review of monthly finance reports, payroll, and VAT
  3. Presentation of management accounts to the CEO on a monthly basis
  4. Review of quarterly reports submitted to SHRA
  5. Assistance with preparation for board meetings and audit preparation
  6. Implementation of processes to ensure compliance with SHRA regulations
  7. Strategic Business Management: Development and implementation of strategic plans to achieve organizational goals. Financial analysis and forecasting to support decision-making. Identification of growth opportunities and risk management strategies. Collaboration with department heads to align financial objectives with overall business objectives.
  8. Procurement Department Setup and Management: Assistance in establishing the procurement department. Implementation of policies, processes, and compliance monitoring.
  9. Leasing and Debtors Department Oversight: Review and sign off of new lease agreements. Ensuring compliance with internal processes and policies. Oversight of leasing and debtor's department staff.
  10. Legal Affairs Coordination: Close collaboration with Legal Director. Ensuring legal compliance in all operations.
  11. Reporting & Systems Management: Oversight of company-wide digitization process. Implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Review and enhancement of policies and procedures. Implementation of organizational controls and risk mitigation measures.

Desired Experience & Qualification:

  1. Qualified Chartered Accountant (CA) with a bachelor's degree in business administration, Finance, or related field (Must have post Articles and membership to SAICA)
  2. Minimum 5 years of experience in financial management, preferably in the housing or real estate sector
  3. Strong understanding of finance, procurement, leasing, and debt management processes
  4. Proven track record of strategic business planning and implementation
  5. Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
  6. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  7. Knowledge of SHRA regulations and compliance requirements is a plus

Package & Remuneration: Basic Salary - R50 PM, depending on experience.
