The Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) is responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and strategic financial decision-making within an organization. The role involves financial reporting, auditing, tax planning, risk management, and advisory services while leveraging modern accounting technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review annual financial statements (AFS) in compliance with IFRS and Companies Act requirements.
- Ensure adherence to SARS (South African Revenue Service) tax regulations (VAT, PAYE, Income Tax).
- Manage statutory audits and liaise with external auditors (e.g., Big Four firms).
Auditing & Assurance
- Conduct internal and external audits to assess financial controls and risk exposure.
- Perform forensic accounting investigations where required (fraud detection, asset misappropriation).
- Use data analytics tools (e.g., ACL, IDEA, Power BI) for audit automation.
- Develop budgets, forecasts, and financial models to support business decisions.
- Analyze financial performance using ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Sage X3, Pastel).
- Advise management on cost optimization, profitability, and investment strategies.
Taxation & Regulatory Compliance
- Prepare and submit tax returns (ITR14, VAT201, EMP501).
- Stay updated on South African tax law changes (Draft Tax Bills, SARS updates).
- Implement King IV Corporate Governance principles.
- Assess financial risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with FSCA (Financial Sector Conduct Authority) and SARB (South African Reserve Bank) regulations.
- Utilize AI-driven accounting tools (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, CaseWare).
Technical Skills
Accounting Standards: IFRS, GRAP (for public sector), Companies Act
