Certification & Laboratory Engineer
R&D

The Area

The client is a global leader in outdoor lighting, committed to providing cost-effective, safe, comfortable, and sustainable lighting solutions. The Certification & Laboratory Engineer will be part of the Research and Development (R&D) team based at the Head Office in Olifantsfontein.

Job Purpose

Ensure all products comply with national and international standards by planning, directing, and coordinating luminaire testing, especially for luminaires used in explosive atmospheres.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Product Certification - SABS and CERTEX

Test new and existing product models in accredited laboratories, maintain certification records, and coordinate with certification bodies regarding sampling and audits.

Testing of luminaires to specific permit conditions

Conduct internal tests to verify compliance, liaise with CERTEX for design changes, update quality systems, and ensure proper documentation accompanies product delivery.

Safety and Performance Testing

Perform safety tests, coordinate sample testing, and document results to ensure standards compliance.

Testing of Luminaire Components

Test new components for substitution in luminaires, ensure compliance, and retain certificates.

Photometric Testing

Conduct photometric tests to optimize luminaire performance, modify designs as needed, and compile performance data.

Equipment Calibration

Calibrate test equipment internally and via accredited labs, maintaining calibration records.

Specification Control

Maintain a library of relevant SANS specifications and ensure access to latest standards.

Product Failures and Customer Claims

Investigate failures, analyze causes, and maintain detailed reports.

Inspection and Quality Control

Perform visual inspections, compile inspection sheets, and address non-conformances.

Training and Support

Train personnel on testing procedures and provide technical support across departments.

Representation

Represent the company on SABS committees related to lighting and optics.

Qualifications & Skills
