Job description

Experience : 5 years Category Management experience in an FMCG retailer or with an FMCG manufacturer.

Position Summary

We are now looking for a Catman Manager to be based in Bryanston.

A day in the life of a Catman Manager:
  1. Development & Execution of Picture of Success
  2. Work with CDT on developing the Picture of Success model across all Nestle categories.
  3. Analyze various sources of customer and shopper data and use category insights to provide recommendations on ranging, flow, shelf optimization, shopper navigation at shelf, forward share, secondary placements, hot spots, and layout plans by category. Data sources include Shoprite Rex, Spar Insights, PnP Smart Shopper, AC Nielsens, Shopper Research (CI Team), Data Orbis, SAP, Trade Intelligence.
  4. Deliver category growth by assisting sales in building long-term sustainable winning in-store category strategies (support and develop the sales team).
  5. Engage with key customers and customize strategy based on customer dynamics (Channel, classifications of store clusters, regional biases, store size).
  6. Hold regular CATMAN meetings with customers and support them with building strategy in line with category growth (e.g. Spar SCOPs). This includes eCommerce (Pure Players and Brick and Clicks) customers.
  7. Field Sales Team Engagement (Informal planograms).
  8. Engage with Nestle Area Business managers and customize strategy based on customer dynamics (Channel, classifications of store clusters, regional biases, store size).
  9. Hold regular CATMAN meetings with the regions and support them with executing Picture of Success. This includes support in Cluster 5 countries and eCommerce customers.
  10. Support CDT manager with the key inputs for the ICP process - Channel share, performance, distribution.
  11. Develop in-store strategy in line with 4P direction from CDT.
  12. NPD contribution and expertise (Be the category expert with a proactive approach seeking new opportunities; identify and evaluate all opportunities of a category across all types of sales channels; give feedback to Brand Managers, Marketing Managers, and Channel Managers).
  13. Support on NPD plans by recommending placement based on shopper insights, ranging in line with NPD objectives and launch plan to customer and ensuring the execution of this recommendation.
  14. Test NPD shelf presence through Shelf Tests.
  15. Create distribution targets in line with ranging objectives and track monthly for feedback to CDT.
  16. Understand competitors to effectively engage with customers and deliver category expertise.
  17. Monitor our competition (Regularly monitor and evaluate Leaflet Monitoring – compare our and competitors leaflet activities).
  18. Monitor competitors' activities in category and understand their advantage.
  19. Development of the MS report and comments; Define the key research needs for the category/customer development.
  20. Understand category and competitors to effectively engage with customers.
  21. Develop all team members.
  22. Ensure the key succession planning for the category specialist as an entry position for NESTLE.
  23. Recruit strong category specialists for further capability building within NESTLE.
What will make you successful?

5 years Category Management experience in an FMCG retailer or with an FMCG manufacturer. FMCG experience (dealing with strategies and analytical opportunities, ideally exposure to Delivering Category Growth initiatives). Strong customer organization knowledge. Preferred experiences: Trade Marketing, Research, Sales.
