Description

Our client in the retail industry is currently looking to employ a Category Manager (Purchasing - Butchery), based in Perseverance, Port Elizabeth.

The purpose of this position is to drive and promote the business through the buying of promotional and replenishment stock, communication and leadership to retailers, upholding retail policy, and maintaining category and divisional profits, retail profitability, stockholdings, and service levels.

Reporting to: Purchasing Manager

Requirements:
  • National Senior Certificate (Matric)
  • National Certificate / Diploma in Marketing Management or similar (recommended)
  • Diploma or Degree in Purchasing or Commerce (recommended)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the Butchery industry
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills
  • Thorough knowledge of buying systems and processes
  • Comprehensive knowledge of product range requirements within a supermarket environment
  • Proven negotiating skills
  • Hands-on approach to problems and solutions
  • Administrative and financial skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Knowledge of SAP system (beneficial)
  • Previous FMCG buying experience required
Responsibilities:
  • Negotiating with suppliers
  • Maintaining transaction records with suppliers
  • Negotiating deals and prices to achieve competitive retail prices and gross profit targets
  • Managing stock levels and service levels against sales and budget
  • Managing product ranges within categories
  • Achieving sales and gross profit targets for DC and retail
  • Monitoring advertising and consumer trends
  • Driving sales through promotions and innovation
  • Developing relationships with Retail Butchery Managers and Store Owners
