Job Description

Purpose of the role:

Manage the supply of strategic Upstream Commodities and Services to the De Beers Group of Companies (GoC) to ensure:

  • Maximum benefit and value add, in line with the organization's strategic needs
  • Operational and contractual compliance to minimize risk to the business
  • Strategic supplier relationship management

Lead the definition and implementation of category strategies to drive:

  • Value delivery
  • Spend/cost optimisation
  • Supply risk mitigation
  • Identify and realize cost reduction opportunities sustainably while achieving company objectives (e.g., local spend and HDSA spend)

Be responsible for creating and maintaining contracts for the De Beers group, developing relationships with strategic suppliers, and managing Total Cost of Ownership benefits to meet business needs.

Key Result Areas

Develop, improve, and implement category strategies with stakeholder input based on strategic sourcing principles. Ensure end-to-end sourcing, contracting, and contract management activities are executed properly. Negotiate and conclude agreements, working with Group Legal to develop bespoke contracts that outline innovation, joint development, technical, commercial, relationship, and performance expectations. Support the Supply Chain Manager in related functions.

Sustainability & Social

  • Understand community ESG needs and promote community development and inclusive procurement
  • Embed sustainability and inclusive procurement targets into supplier strategies and agreements
  • Support the Inclusive Procurement team, promoting sustainable value through ESG, TCO, innovation, and cost reduction initiatives
  • Develop a medium to long-term category vision aligned with the global vision

Manage supplier relationships to ensure timely delivery of products and services, review vendor performance, and ensure contractual compliance.

Supply Chain Excellence

  • Define and adopt commercial excellence standards and practices
  • Lead the implementation of standards, new working methods, and systems
  • Manage contractual risks, resolve escalated issues, and ensure effective contract execution
  • Benchmark pricing and commodity performance against industry peers
  • Rationalize the supplier base by consolidating and contracting off-contract spending

People & Teams

  • Lead, develop, and coach a team of commercial professionals
  • Oversee work planning, resource management, and team performance

Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with internal De Beers and Supply Chain governance requirements and applicable legislation

Qualifications

  • Degree in Commercial, Business, or Engineering disciplines
  • Advanced qualifications (e.g., MBA, MCIPs) are advantageous

Experience

  • 5-10 years in sourcing and category management
  • Experience in both Direct and Indirect categories
  • Proven track record in relevant fields, technical knowledge, and leadership experience
