A leading insurance company is seeking an experienced underwriter for Casualty Treaty business in Sub Saharan Africa. The role involves assessing and underwriting risks, developing client relationships, and conducting thorough analyses to ensure a profitable portfolio. Ideal candidates will possess a relevant university degree, extensive underwriting experience, and strong analytical skills.

Qualifications

  • University degree in law-related disciplines or recognized insurance qualification.
  • Minimum of 5 years underwriting experience with knowledge of reinsurance and primary insurance.
  • Fluent in English; French and/or Portuguese desirable.

YOUR JOB

  1. Acquire, assess, underwrite, quote, and negotiate proportional and non-proportional Casualty Treaty business in the Sub Saharan African markets, both directly and through brokers.
  2. Provide tailor-made solutions and ensure a profitable portfolio.
  3. Check contract wordings and conditions according to MR underwriting guidelines.
  4. Cultivate relationships with cedants and brokers for business development and explore new business opportunities through these channels.
  5. Conduct market and portfolio analyses, and prepare reports.
  6. Negotiate with clients on product-related topics and other class-specific issues in coordination with client management.
  7. Support the execution of opinion leadership on selected class-specific topics (e.g., internal and external training sessions, seminars, workshops, specialist presentations, publications, interviews).

YOUR PROFILE

  1. University degree in law-related disciplines, mathematics/statistics, economics, or a recognized insurance qualification (e.g., ACII / FCII).
  2. Minimum of 5 years underwriting experience with in-depth knowledge of reinsurance and primary insurance across all Casualty classes (PA, Motor, Liabilities).
  3. Strong pricing experience and expertise in wordings.
  4. Sound analytical skills.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a willingness to share knowledge within the team.
  6. High level of commitment and ability to work under pressure.
  7. Proactive, efficient, and independent work style.
  8. Willingness to travel.
  9. Fluent in English; French and/or Portuguese language skills are highly desirable.
