Job Description

As a Direct Care Specialist, you are responsible for enriching the lives of adults with intellectual and developmental differences by providing support and assistance to help them achieve their Support Plan (SP) goals by following the Implementation Plan (IP) strategy.

Direct Care Specialists supervise and support to ensure the health and safety of individuals in the home. They assist with routine and instrumental activities of daily living, medication administration, transportation, and participation in community outings and events. They also communicate and document daily progress and choices, while protecting individuals' human rights and dignity.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Promote the mission: "The Power of People and Possibilities for individuals living with disabilities."
  • Follow all agency policies and procedures, including the Personnel Handbook.
  • Adhere to the Challenge Enterprises Mission and Residential Code of Conduct.
  • Participate in new hire orientation, mandatory training, and staff meetings.
  • Implement and evaluate individual plans (IP) in the home and community.
  • Maintain personal appearance of individuals to promote their dignity.
  • Assist with activities of daily living: grooming, bathing, meals, money management, shopping, cleaning, and cooking.
  • Enhance quality of life by engaging with the environment and residents.
  • Plan and facilitate activities and care for residents.
  • Complete documentation for each individual during each shift, including health, safety, progress, issues, concerns, and choices, using Therap system.
  • Complete incident and medication error reports accurately.
  • Administer medication and document administration via the approved system.
  • Communicate with supervisors through case notes, medication logs, and safety procedures.
  • Record time and attendance via Paycom system and report issues promptly.
  • Monitor the group home's email account.
  • Follow the Challenge Enterprises Vehicle Policy.
  • Perform additional tasks as needed to meet agency needs.
Qualifications

Required: Must meet state background check requirements, possess a valid Florida driver’s license, be 21+ with a clean 3-year driving record, have a high school diploma or GED, and at least one year of experience in a medical, psychiatric, nursing, child-care setting, or with individuals with developmental disabilities.

Note: College or vocational training equal to 30 semester or 45 quarter hours may substitute for experience. Must communicate effectively, be patient, physically capable of climbing stairs, standing, stooping, and bending for at least three hours daily. Ability to work weekends and overnight hours if required.

Preferred: Strong math and writing skills, creativity, flexibility, excellent organizational skills, CPR and First Aid certification is preferred.
