MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION:

To identify, initiate, research, investigate, plan and record relevant audio-visual material for Radio, TV and Digital / Online stories that are complex in nature and to produce News and Current Affairs reports and stories that are fair, accurate and compelling for the target audiences.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Initiate and cover stories as assigned.
2. Provide quality scripts and clear voice-overs, including on-air broadcasts.
3. Research, investigate and break stories.
4. Give informative and well-researched input in live crossings and packaged content / stories.
5. Check facts, accuracy and quality of stories / content.
6. Set up and record interviews.
7. Meet story and broadcast deadlines.
8. Keep abreast of news events / developments.
9. Obtain broadcast quality audio-visuals and photographs for publication / posting, using relevant recording equipment, including smart phone.
10. Adhere to South Africa’s Constitution, all broadcasting and other legislation, ICASA’s licence conditions and regulations, the BCCSA and Press Council codes of conduct, including rulings, SABC News’ editorial policy, News and Current Affairs style-guide, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) etc.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. NQF 6 Diploma in Journalism/Media Studies or relevant studies
2. Proficiency in the broadcast language (read, write, and speak)
3. Understand current media trends and developments and also use / engage in multi-media platforms professionally
4. Good general knowledge
5. Computer literacy
6. Ability to interact with and manage different stakeholders
