The Project Coordinator will play a critical support role in the planning and execution of Cape Epic events. This role serves as a developmental pipeline for future race leadership and provides first-hand exposure to logistics, stakeholder engagement, route coordination, and event delivery. This is a unique opportunity for an ambitious individual looking to grow into the role of Race Director for one of our MTB events in South Africa while learning alongside industry experts.
Responsibilities and Duties
Operational Coordination
- Support the operational planning and on-site execution of Cape Epic events.
- Assist in logistics for race villages, service provider coordination, route access, infrastructure deployment, and daily race operations.
- Interface with suppliers, contractors, municipalities, and landowners for route setup and service implementation.
- Assist with compliance documentation, permit applications, and environmental agreements.
Route & Infrastructure Support
- Help coordinate route scouting, trail marking, signage deployment, and water point logistics.
- Participate in route testing and provide feedback on rider experience and feasibility.
Team & Vendor Support
- Assist in briefing and managing service providers and volunteers before and during event delivery.
- Work alongside the Safety, Athlete Services, and Production teams to ensure synergy and compliance.
Developmental Leadership
- Take ownership of projects and gradually assume higher levels of responsibility across operational domains.
- Prepare for a future role as Race Director through mentorship, firsthand leadership, and specialized training.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Event Management, Sport Science, Logistics, or related field.
- 2–4 years of experience in event operations or project coordination (preferably in endurance sports or outdoor events).
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Strong teamwork and people skills with an eagerness to learn.
- A passion for mountain biking, trail culture, and race delivery.
- Willingness to travel and work non-standard hours during event periods.
- A growth mindset and enthusiasm for stepping into future leadership.
- Valid driver’s license and own transport.
