Job description

Job Description: The Candidate Process Engineer participates in all aspects of the Candidate Programme, gaining hands-on experience while assisting the Engineer and the broader team in developing design information.

This role supports the transition from student to professional by building analytical, technical, business, and interpersonal skills. As part of the team, the Candidate Process Engineer will assist the Lead Process Engineer in design development, focusing on water and wastewater treatment plants, sludge/residual handling systems, and pump stations.

Technical Excellence:
  1. Assists in developing process design deliverables, including mass and energy balances, PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and process calculations.
  2. Supports design content by applying technical knowledge to ensure high-quality outputs within project timelines.
  3. Applies process engineering principles to ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable designs aligned with project requirements and industry standards.
  4. Assists in process safety studies, including HAZOPs, risk assessments, and operability reviews.
  5. Performs work under supervision, adhering to budget and schedule constraints.
  6. Collects and analyzes information from project BIM models as needed.
  7. Uses computer software to solve engineering problems.
  8. Coordinates with other discipline Engineers for design continuity.
  9. Checks and ensures quality of model production for accuracy.
  10. Seeks information, participates in opportunities, and develops efficiencies.
  11. Contributes to problem-solving and applies knowledge to atypical assignments.
  12. Prepares technical reports, design documentation, and feasibility studies.
  13. Participates in project meetings, reviews, and stakeholder coordination.
  14. Engages in troubleshooting and optimizing existing process systems, contributing innovative solutions.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • BEng / BSc in Chemical or Process Engineering.
  • 2-3 years of relevant process engineering experience, preferably in water, wastewater, petrochemical, or industrial sectors.
  • Registered as a Candidate Engineer with ECSA.
