Job description

Location : Elbow Quay Offices

Reports To : Procurement Manager

Blue Continent Products is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Buyer to join our team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in ensuring the smooth procurement of goods and services to support our operations. Key Responsibilities :

As a Buyer , you will be responsible for :

  • Ensuring compliance with the company’s Procurement Policy and sourcing methods.
  • Conducting RFQs and obtaining competitive quotations to support vessel and land-based operations.
  • Managing procurement processes, ensuring timely completion and following up with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Reviewing order lists before vessel sailing and ensuring the correct procurement is in place.
  • Ensuring accurate receipting of goods and confirming deliveries with signed delivery notes.
  • Supporting BBBEE procurement initiatives and ensuring alignment with company standards.
  • Converting purchase requisitions into purchase orders and managing the supplier selection process.
  • Reporting on open purchases and retrospective POs, taking corrective actions when necessary.
  • Resolving purchase order-related queries and offering high-level procurement support across the business.

Essential Skills and Attributes :

We are looking for someone who possesses the following skills and qualities :

  • Strong attention to detail and excellent follow-through capabilities.
  • Proficiency in SAP (procurement module), MS Office, MS Outlook, and stock / purchase order systems.
  • Solid administrative skills with a high level of accuracy.
  • High integrity and a proactive, reliable approach to work.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Ability to think critically, make sound judgments, and apply creative solutions.
  • Flexibility and the ability to work under pressure, with a willingness to work weekends and irregular hours (especially on sailing days).

Qualifications and Experience :

  • A minimum of Matric qualification.
  • A related Purchasing qualification is advantageous.
  • At least 2 years of experience in procurement of goods and services.
  • A technical background will be an added advantage.
  • A valid Code 8 driver’s license and has own transport are beneficial.
