As the Group Business Risk Manager, you will be responsible for managing, monitoring, and reporting on risk management across the organization. You will manage a team and facilitate a strong risk management culture. Your reporting responsibilities will include providing risk updates and insights to executive committees and the board.
What will you do?
- Maintain the risk management framework, structure, and standards.
- Conduct an annual review of risk governance policies and processes, including the Management Action Policy in accordance with GOI standards.
- Stay updated on new risk measurement techniques and models.
- Provide oversight on risk models and methodologies.
- Perform monitoring on key risk indicators, management actions, and risk strategies.
- Ensure each relevant area has a Risk Champion overseeing risk management.
- Ensure Risk Appetite is set for approval by the Board and Exco, and monitor the Risk Profile.
- Ensure each area manages its risks within the agreed appetite.
- Present RMA’s overall Risk Register and Profile to EXCO and ARC.
- Implement a holistic Risk program including assessment, action plan creation, and remediation.
- Prepare SAM reports and coordinate ORSA reporting and preparation.
- Benchmark risk processes against local and international best practices.
- Conduct risk-related workshops.
- Coordinate, prepare, and report on the Group’s combined assurance.
- Maintain relationships with Audit, Risk, and Actuarial Committees, Exco, and Management Teams.
- Build a strong risk management culture across the organization.
Staff Management
- Manage, supervise, and train staff.
- Lead and motivate the team to achieve targets.
- Develop annual KPAs for staff.
- Ensure effective performance management.
- Lead and mentor staff to foster motivation, ownership, and development.
- Encourage staff to develop skills beyond their comfort zones.
- Resolve issues that hinder effective team working, especially during change.
- Coach and encourage ownership of development among team members.
What you’ll bring to the table?
- NQF Level 7: Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, Actuarial Science, or related field.
- Membership with IRMSA (advantage).
- Professional certification in risk management (advantage).
- Minimum 5 years managerial experience in an insurance environment, including risk management exposure.
- Knowledge of the Insurance Act (short and long term).
- Experience reporting to executive and board committees.
- Knowledge of risk management frameworks, COSO, and ISO 31000.
