Job summary

Santam Client Solutions is hiring a BI Analyst–Developer based in either Cape Town or Johannesburg. You will support business stakeholders daily and design scalable Power BI reporting solutions to drive insight and decision-making.

Embedded in a growing BI team, you will translate requirements into dashboards and dataflows, migrate legacy Excel reports to automated Power BI assets, and help maintain governance across the BI environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Stats, Commerce, or related field.
• 3+ years of BI or analytics experience in a business-facing environment.
• Advantageous: Short-term insurance experience.

What will you do?

We're looking for a BI Analyst–Developer who thrives at the intersection of business and data. This is a dual-role position where you will support business stakeholders day-to-day and also design and build scalable Power BI reporting solutions that drive insight and decision-making.

You’ll be embedded into specific business areas (e.g., sales, servicing, retetions) on a rotating basis to:

• Assist with ad-hoc data questions
• Troubleshoot report issues
• Translate business requirements into clear BI solutions
• Build and maintain Power BI reports and dataflows

You’ll work as part of a growing BI team that is transforming a legacy Excel-based reporting setup into a scalable, governed Power BI environment.

Key Resposibilities?

Business Support

• Serve as the first point of contact for business users in your assigned department
• Answer ad-hoc data queries, support decision-makers, and guide users on interpreting reports
• Work closely with stakeholders to clarify reporting requirements
• Proactively identify reporting gaps or improvement opportunities understand needs and translate into reporting solutions
• Facilitate monthly reporting processes that rely on data (commissions, management reporting and monthly analysis)

Business Support

• Design and develop Power BI dashboards and reports based on business needs
• Build dataflows and transform data using Power Query (M) and DAX
• Ensure data is accurate, consistent, and follows BI governance standards
• Help migrate existing Excel-based reports into automated, scalable Power BI assets
• Participate in peer reviews and team-based development work

Technical Must-Haves

• 3+ years’ experience with Power BI development
• Strong Power Query (M) and DAX skills
• Strong SQL skills and an understanding of relational databases, data warehouses and data architecture.
• Exposure to data high level data engineering and data modelling
• Strong SQL skills and understanding of relational databases
• Experience working with Power BI Service and Dataflows
• Familiarity with Power BI Premium Capacity
• Exposure to Agile tools like Jira/DevOps for managing tasks (advantageous)
• Bonus: Exposure to Microsoft Fabric or Power Automate
• Demonstrates an inclination toward data science, with an interest in applying statistical or predictive techniques to business problems.
