Qualifications

• 5+ years development experience within a BI environment.
• Qlik development experience advantageous.
• Data Warehousing and/or Database management experience advantageous.
• Application development experience advantageous.
• Consulting experience advantageous.
• Experience in the financial insurance industry advantageous.

Job Purpose

Plan, organise, and control data architecture and design principles for optimal analytical model development through the Business Intelligence Development team, ensuring support for informed decision making at all levels of the organisation.

Responsibilities

Data Architecture

Design, plan and implement data architecture for optimal speed and usability. Take responsibility for the development of the data resources into organised, accessible and understandable data storage. Manage and correct discrepancies and inaccuracy in the Business Intelligence platform. Ensure security of client and stakeholder personal information and ensure information accuracy and conformity throughout the business intelligence environment. Incorporate and transform all available data into Data flow and plan and manage information made available within the Business Intelligence platform.

Data Management

Manage key aspects of the data management system with guidance from senior colleagues. This includes being responsible for developing or operating key elements of the system. Manage Data Quality and Data Cleansing. Control accessibility of information within models. Manage external data augmentation to be the most commercially beneficial for the organisation. Manage implementation of any development undertaken. Monitor business intelligence system for performance, adherence to standards and availability of the platform. Optimise operational efficiencies and re‑engineering. Monitor adherence to standards and technical best practice.

Business Requirements Identification

Understand Business needs and translate into meaningful Information by applying logical links between business need and available data. Investigate queries and information requirements in line with data architecture. Evaluate feasibility of needs based on the results of data investigation and communicate outcome to senior leadership.

Data Collection & Analysis

Use data from a wide range of sources to analyse key themes and trends and identify possible impacts on the business.

Insights and Reporting

Prepare and coordinate the completion of various data and analytics reports by identifying insight from information contained within the general business intelligence (BI) models and present these insights to stakeholders in the business.

Stakeholder Engagement

Build relationships across the business and find out their needs/issues/concern and reacting to these by arranging meetings and events and drafting supporting materials to promote understanding and commitment. Ensure that business objectives and personal delivery align to and meets the service principles.

Data and Analytics Strategy

Make recommendations to improve data and analytics systems and platforms, contributing to the continuous improvement and refinement of data and analytics strategy.

Improvement / Innovation

Leverage all available information from our partners, the industry, and internally to ensure we are constantly reviewing our departmental processes, systems and protocols with a view to improve efficiencies. Analyse current performance inhibitors and finding solutions to ensure business continuity. Develop Ideas, provide an innovative and ever evolving set of systems and processes.

Personal Capability Building

Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation where relevant to improve performance and fulfil personal potential. Set own goals and working towards them and keep up to date with trends within business intelligence by participating in forums, webinars and knowledge sharing platforms and reading specialist media.

Performance Management

Manage user expectations and deliverables within work stream. Prioritise own workflow and ensure work is completed to the required standards of productivity, quality and timeliness.

Building Capability

Provide technical assistance to teammates and provide training where required. Knowledge shares relevant findings within team environment and enable team through required business processes, systems, knowledge, etc.

Education

Grade 12/ SAQA Accredited Equivalent (Essential); A relevant 3 year degree / diploma relating to Business Intelligence / Data Warehousing / Database Administration (Advantageous); Maths and Science at Grade 12 level (Advantageous); Qlik certifications (Advantageous) (Required)

Experience

5 or more years development experience within a business intelligence environment (Essential); Qlik development experience (Advantageous); Data Warehousing and/or Database management experience (Advantageous); Application development experience (Advantageous); Consulting experience (Advantageous); Experience and knowledge of the financial insurance industry (Advantageous).
