Qualifications

Business Intelligence Analyst job vacancy in Johannesburg.

The Business Intelligence Analyst will be responsible for developing, maintaining and continuously improving the organisation’s operational and financial reporting environment through data modelling, dashboard development, reporting automation and business intelligence solutions.

The role will focus on ensuring the accuracy, consistency and availability of business data while delivering meaningful reporting and analytical insights to support operational, financial, executive and Board-level decision-making.

Working closely with Operations, Finance, Business Development and Site Operations, the successful candidate will contribute to building a scalable and automated reporting environment that improves business performance, strengthens data governance and reduces manual reporting processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Business Intelligence Development
  • Design, develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and reporting solutions.
  • Develop and maintain data models, datasets and reporting structures.
  • Enhance existing dashboards by improving standardisation, visualisation, usability and performance.
  • Develop reporting solutions that support business intelligence requirements across multiple departments.
  • Promote and support self-service reporting capabilities throughout the organisation.
  • Ensure dashboards and reporting tools provide accurate, relevant and accessible business information.
• Reporting & Data Management
  • Produce, validate and maintain daily, weekly and monthly operational and financial reports.
  • Prepare standardised reporting packs for management, executive and Board-level reporting.
  • Perform data imports, transformations and consolidations.
  • Maintain reporting templates, schedules and reporting documentation.
  • Investigate and resolve reporting discrepancies, ensuring data accuracy and consistency.
  • Ensure all reporting requirements and deadlines are met.
• Reporting Automation & Digital Innovation
  • Identify and automate manual reporting processes to improve efficiency and reduce administrative effort.
  • Develop and implement automated reporting workflows and data integration processes.
  • Utilise Power Automate and other relevant technologies to streamline recurring reporting activities.
  • Investigate and implement emerging Business Intelligence technologies and AI-enabled reporting solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting turnaround times, data accessibility and business intelligence capabilities.
  • Contribute to the organisation’s broader digital transformation and Business Intelligence strategy.
• Data Quality & Governance
  • Maintain and monitor master data integrity across relevant business systems.
  • Perform reconciliations between source systems and reporting datasets.
  • Identify data anomalies, investigate discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain data documentation, reporting standards and governance procedures.
  • Ensure reporting processes are consistent, reliable and aligned with business requirements.
• Business Support & Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Support reporting and analytical requirements across Operations, Finance, Business Development and Site Operations.
  • Provide reporting support to the Executive Committee and Board.
  • Assist stakeholders with dashboard usage, data interpretation and reporting queries.
  • Provide user training and promote the effective adoption of Business Intelligence tools.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and develop appropriate reporting solutions.
  • Communicate analytical findings and business insights effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Role Requirements:

• National Diploma or Degree (NQF Level 6 or higher) in Computer Science, Finance, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Statistics, Business Intelligence, Commerce or a related field.
• A Degree at NQF Level 7 in a relevant discipline will be advantageous.
• Microsoft Power BI certification will be advantageous.
• Minimum of 3–5 years’ Business Intelligence or relevant data analytics experience will be advantageous.
• Proven experience developing and maintaining Power BI dashboards and reporting solutions.
• Strong practical experience with SQL, data modelling and ETL processes.
• Experience producing and maintaining operational and financial business reports.
• Experience with reporting automation and improving manual reporting processes.
• Retail, fuel, convenience retail or Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) industry experience will be advantageous.
• Experience working with financial data and supporting management or executive reporting will be beneficial.

Technical Requirements:

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Power Query and Power Pivot.
• Strong Power BI development and dashboard visualisation capabilities.
• Working knowledge of SQL and database querying.
• Understanding of data modelling, data warehousing concepts and ETL processes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Business Intelligence platforms.
• Knowledge of Sage 300 will be advantageous.
• Experience with API integrations will be advantageous.
• Exposure to AI tools and automation platforms, particularly Microsoft Copilot and Power Automate, will be beneficial.
