Job description

IOEC is seeking a target-driven Business Development Manager, experienced in international sales & marketing of wine and alcohol, to join our team. The core purpose of the successful candidate is to promote and expand the company’s commercial activities, generating profitable and sustainable sales growth in line with the company's strategy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
  1. Expand the customer base:
  2. Successfully negotiate trade deals using negotiation and sales skills.
  3. Develop compelling pitches to attract new customers and encourage existing customers to expand their purchases.
  4. Meet or exceed performance targets against budget.
  5. Identify market opportunities and expand the customer base.

Maintain existing business:

  • Provide high levels of service through relationship building.
  • Ensure sales follow-up and logistics are managed effectively.
  • Ensure timely collection of debts.
  • Gather and relay client feedback.
Internal communication & reporting:
  • Achieve profit budgets set annually with MD approval.
  • Develop growth plans and sales forecasts.
  • Comply with market regulations.
  • Work within logistical and financial controls.
  • Participate in trade shows and marketing events.
Minimum Role Requirements:

Experience:

  • Over 3 years of experience in wine sales within an export environment, with a proven track record of meeting or exceeding targets.
  • Experience in opening new accounts and expanding business.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of wine and spirits.
  • Understanding of Incoterms 2020.
  • Experience with Qlikview / Qliksense analytics.
  • Excellent networking, relationship building, persuasion, and sales skills.
  • Business acumen, negotiation, presentation, and objection handling skills.
  • Strong analytical, report writing, and data interpretation skills.
  • Customer-centric with excellent communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and capable of managing multiple projects independently.

Qualifications:

  • Matric certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or Commerce.
  • WSET or Sommelier Accreditation (Junior or Full) or equivalent.

Operational requirements:

  • Valid passport and driver’s license.
  • No criminal or credit issues.
  • Willingness to travel to assigned markets at least once every 6 weeks for approximately 10 days.
Package & Remuneration:

Salary will be market-related and depend on experience, including a monthly salary plus sales commissions.
