Job description

Job Purpose :

The Business Development Manager (BDM) identifies quality leads and converts them into successful deals for products, services, or solutions.

To ensure consistent growth in the customer base and sales figures, the BDM is expected to :

  • Achieve set sales and revenue targets
  • Manage and expand within the allocated market territory
  • Build strong networks and long-term relationships with prospective clients

Key Responsibilities :

  • Generate leads for new markets and clients
  • Understand clients' business needs and develop solutions that meet their and stakeholders' expectations
  • Ensure solutions justify the investment and demonstrate the return for the client
  • Secure business deals and provide high levels of after-sales customer care
  • Lead relationship-building initiatives with Principal Vendors, including negotiations on pricing and procurement

Core Responsibilities :

Sales Management :

  • Achieve annual revenue and sales targets
  • Lead demand-generating sales activities in assigned markets and for specific products, services, or solutions
  • Convert opportunities into sales, track billing, and survey customer satisfaction
  • Distribute relevant thought leadership and marketing materials to customers
  • Advise on appropriate solution pricing schedules during bid/proposal development
  • Monitor and report on new business pipeline, progress, and performance against targets and benchmarks
  • Attract new customers through collaborative sales efforts
  • Collaborate with other company divisions to leverage industry opportunities
  • Follow up on qualified opportunities, build relationships with key personnel, and provide feedback
  • Understand business unit strategies, growth plans, and risks
  • Work with leadership to develop or phase out solutions based on viability
  • Identify market opportunities and potential collaborations
  • Drive cross-industry collaboration, including upselling and cross-selling opportunities

Governance, Risk, and Business Continuity :

  • Stay updated on operational trends and innovations
  • Manage business risks through monitoring and stakeholder engagement
  • Lead projects to improve profits or mitigate risks
  • Maintain high ethical standards in operations

External Parties and Relationship Management :

  • Oversee relationships with service providers and partners, ensuring service delivery and evaluating performance

Education :

  • Degree in Business Management, Financial Management, or equivalent (NQF 7)

Experience :

  • Minimum 5 years of sales experience
  • Knowledge of financing models
  • Experience in selling IT solutions in relevant industries is advantageous

Other Requirements :

  • Strong business acumen
  • Knowledge of corporate governance and auditing processes
  • Proficiency in solution sales methodologies, with excellent probing, listening, questioning, and negotiation skills
