Job Purpose
- Develop a strategic plan to grow the international footprint and GWP.
- Serve as the custodian of technical underwriting and risk management, including risk surveys.
- Develop new business opportunities and maintain key accounts.
- Manage international operations and technical managers.
Key Responsibilities
- Reporting: Provide reports on financial and operational indicators related to underwriting, such as GWP, cost management, audit results, and underwriting outcomes. Offer feedback and recommendations to the Head of Engineering.
- Talent Management: Oversee employee development, performance management, and discipline.
- Technical Expertise: Possess excellent knowledge of engineering fundamentals, policy wording, product knowledge, market pricing, and reinsurance.
- Risk Management: Make referrals and recommendations based on underwriting principles. Review business outside minimum rating requirements and ensure compliance with rating, underwriting, and reinsurance standards.
- Review: Assess bespoke or broker wording.
- Relationship Management: Engage regularly with branches, brokers, agents, and clients as needed.
- Coaching and Support: Provide both informal and formal coaching to team members.
- Problem Solving: Assist staff in resolving complex issues while adhering to standards and objectives.
- Decision Making: Make recommendations and decisions on complex underwriting functions.
- Customer Service: Maintain customer service standards according to SLAs and provide technical advice beyond normal duties.
- Operations Management: Ensure targets and standards are met; manage compliance with SLAs.
- TCF: Ensure customers are treated fairly.
- Expenses: Monitor and control expenses.
- SOPs: Ensure SOPs are in place for underwriting, reinsurance, and systems, maintaining high work standards.
- People and Work Streams: Ensure the right people structures and skills are in place, with well-coordinated work streams across operations, underwriting, claims, and distribution.
